You are not alone; feedback from the profession has highlighted that practices need support on how to strengthen their consultation skills to ensure their consultations with clients are effective and efficient. No more so than in these changing and stressful times.

Who is the course for?

The course is suitable for any veterinary professional, at any stage in their veterinary career, who consults with clients either remotely or face-to-face.

The half-day workshop provides you with the opportunity to identify the challenges you face and work through tailored scenarios with an opportunity to practise and enhance the tools and skills that are most meaningful to you. Topics covered include:

Key Learning Objectives

  • HOW to achieve an accurate history and in the case of those working remotely, to provide you with the tools to help decide whether the patient needs to be seen or not
  • HOW to ensure you and your clients are on the same page
  • HOW to ensure your client is on board and understands the agreed plan
  • HOW to take the stress out of dealing with highly charged clients such as those who are upset or angry
  • HOW to break bad news
  • HOW to navigate through challenges that otherwise may result in a complaint

How does it work?

This is an opportunity to work with vet Christine Magrath, award-winning communication skills specialist and VDS Training Consultant, and receive genuine and meaningful feedback from a simulated client as you acquire new skills and become more proficient with those that you currently use.

Research has shown that learning evidence-based skills in a controlled, safe environment can provide you with long lasting tools to sustain a positive outcome for you, your patients and your clients. This type of practical training is unique within the veterinary profession.

Furthermore, to help support you, we will send a short video and worksheet prior to the training, to help you become more familiar with the skills we will be exploring during the workshop.

On the day

This half day workshop begins at 9.00am and runs until 1.00pm. Once you have booked you will receive details of how to register to join the live session.
